about me.
My short "Wake up Ophelia!", which was on display in Tate Modern London, consisted of a series of digitally painted drawings inspired by Millais’s Ophelia painting in Tate Britain and by Elizabeth Siddal, the forgotten woman artist who posed for it in a freezing Victorian bathtub.
Both the tragic Shakespearean character and Elizabeth were faced with societal barriers and mental health problems impeding their aspirations.
My artwork (which borrows from Pop Art like Liechtenstein's and Japanese Anime) tells a more hopeful story, where the heroine ‘wakes up’ in our time to freely pursue her art career.
However, it’s a message for everyone struggling, that it’s never too late to start anew.
I believe Tate liked the message and the reference to its collection. It was part of a Biennale made of selected works of artists working for the Tate Galleries, which took place at Tate Modern London, Blavatnik building, on Level 5 between the 7th and the 20th of August 2024
I hope it'll keep spreading its hopeful message far and wide, so feel free to share this page* or its YouTube and Vimeo links
